I see the church have applied to the County Council for £4,000 towards the Glebe Centre. The application is to be considered at the CLC meeting next week.

Out of interest, is the £4k for something specific, or just 'general' fundraising?

Thanks for the clarification Jon.

Looking at the applications vs the money available, you're in with a good chance.

THE GLEBE CENTRE WEEKLY BULLETIN No.3
29th January 2014
The Vicar writes

The Glebe Centre is open for limited use, pending the grant of a Premises Licence from the District Council in February. Until the licence is granted we can’t hire out the Glebe Centre for events involving music, plays, films or dance at which the general public pays to enter and this includes parties.

Apply to Bonnie Butts (Tremezzo, Vicarage Road, Crawley Down, West Sussex RH10 4JJ. Email: glebecentrebooking@gmail.com Tel: 01342 714082) or the Vicar (vicar@jkcahale.co.uk) for a copy of the Conditions of Hire and Use. Make applications to hire / use the Glebe Centre to Bonnie Butts.

When the building was handed over by Redwing Construction to All Saints Church this was done in the full knowledge by both parties that some construction work had not been done. On behalf of All Saints’ Church David Calvey, John Wells and Brian Apps are now working to complete construction using remaining funds from the Church Community Hall Campaign.

User groups that are now using the Glebe Centre regularly are:
• Smilers Sunday School
• 1st & 2nd Crawley Down Girlguiding
• Bereavement Support Group Team training
• Tiny Tots parent/carer & pre-school children’s group
• All Saints Church Youth Club Team training

In February it is anticipated that additional regular user groups will include:
• Crawley Down Evening W.I.
• Pilates
• Open Door
• Messy Church (http://www.messychurch.org.uk)
• Carers Support Group
• Time Aside: Sensory Art & Interaction (http://www.timeaside.com)
• Sunday afternoon poetry reading

The Glebe Centre is open for limited use, pending the grant of a Premises Licence from the District Council in February. Make applications to hire / use the Glebe Centre to Bonnie Butts at glebecentrebooking@gmail.com

When the building was handed over to All Saints Church some construction work had not been done. On behalf of All Saints’ Church David Calvey, John Wells and Brian Apps are now working with contractors to complete construction. Archer Stone are currently repairing the churchyard walls.

As regular users start to use the Glebe Centre, a lot of work is being done by Gill Crook (Glebe Centre Treasurer), Bonnie Butts (Bookings Secretary) and other members of the Glebe Centre Management Team to set up the new systems of accepting bookings, issuing invoices and receiving payments. And Bonnie (Glebe Centre Cleaner) is getting used to the cleaning routines.

We have recently applied for £4000 from the Diocesan Mission Fund primarily for Youth Club equipment but also towards the cost of installing a sound system, projector and screen. And £2500 was recently granted to us by West Sussex County Council for curtains / blinds.

User groups that are using the Glebe Centre regularly include:
• Smilers Sunday School
• 1st & 2nd Crawley Down Girlguiding
• St.Catherine’s Hospice Bereavement Support Group Team training
• Tiny Tots parent/carer & pre-school children’s group

• Pilates
• Open Door
• Messy Church (http://www.messychurch.org.uk)
• Carers Support Group
• Time Aside: Sensory Art & Interaction (http://www.timeaside.com)
• Sunday afternoon poetry reading (once a quarter)

THE GLEBE CENTRE BULLETIN
No.6
12th February 2014

The Vicar writes

A Premises Licence has now been granted to the Glebe Centre by the Licensing Officer of Mid Sussex District Council. The purpose of the Licence is to ensure that when the Glebe Centre is used for performances that involve dancing, music, plays or films the goals of prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance and protection of children are met. The Licensing Officer’s main concern is our need to manage the Glebe Centre in such a way that noise nuisance is not caused. Later this month the Glebe Centre Management Team will meet to agree how to include the Premises Licence conditions into the Conditions of Hire and Use for the Glebe Centre. Hopefully this will be done by early March and we can then hire out the Glebe Centre for these kinds of activity including parties.

The Planning Permission for the Glebe Centre requires all use and occupancy of the building to cease at 10.30pm. So hirers will have to bring their activities to an end soon after 10pm to allow them the necessary time for cleaning and tidying that is required of them by the Conditions of Hire and Use.

Archer Stone are currently repairing the churchyard walls and minor works are still being done in and around the Glebe Centre.

The revised Conditions of Hire & Use for the Glebe Centre are now available. To book the Glebe Centre as a whole – or any part of it – please email Bonnie Butts on glebecentrebooking@gmail.com or telephone Bonnie on 01342 714082.

Work is still continuing to complete small aspects of the building and surrounds but most work is now done.

This is the last post I will make on this thread. The Parish Rooms are replaced and it has been achieved by a huge commitment of money, time and skills by Crawley Down. Thank you.

This is what All Saints' Church offers Crawley Down in the Glebe Centre. This is in addition to at least two services in church every Sunday and my general ministry of availability to Crawley Down:

Tiny Tots. This is the Parent / Carer & pre-school children’s group that All Saints’ Church has run for many years. If you have pre-school age children come along to the Glebe Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays in term time from 10am to 11.15am. A friendly welcome and an opportunity for your children to play with other children awaits you. For more info contact Bonnie Butts on 01342 714082 or Sarah Scott on 01342 712472.

Bereavement Support Group. This is a joint activity between All Saints’ Church and St.Catherine’s Hospice that will start in May: watch out for publicity. For more info contact me (details below).

Carers Support Group. This is a joint activity between All Saints’ Church and Carers Support West Sussex. If you are caring for your spouse, partner or another family member of friend come along to the support group. It meets monthly on the fourth Thursday each month, 2.00pm to 3.30pm. The next ones are on Thursdays 27th March and 24th April. For more info contact me (details below).

Youth Club. All Saints’ Church is working with the Chichester Diocesan Youth Work Team to set up a Youth Club for young people in Years 6, 7 & 8. More news soon. For more info contact me (details below).

Poetry reading. Do you write poetry? Do you enjoy poetry? If your answer is yes, come along to Poetry Reading in the Glebe Centre once a quarter on Sunday afternoon. The next one is Sunday 11th May when the theme for poetry is Spring. For more info contact me (details below).

Messy Church. This is a new way of being church at 4pm on Sundays. It’s an hour and a half for all the generations in the Glebe Centre that gives you activities, story time and tea. It’s for all the family. The next ones are Sundays 16th March, 27th April and 25th May. For more info contact me (details below).

Café Church. This is another new way of being church: the next one is at 9.15am in the Glebe Centre. For more info contact me (details below).
