Referendum 10tth December 2015

Postby johnp on 03 Dec 2015, 12:42

Leaflets regarding the referendum will be distributed to the village by Monday 7th December.

No idea what happened to the company contracted to deliver them last week - but that is in the past.

Vote YES if you want a degree of control over housing in Crawley Down
Vote NO if the current development free-for-all is your idea of heaven.

If you don't vote don't complain later.

Its really important that we get a good turnout on Thursday - 70% like the General Election. If we get a 90% YES vote with a 40% turnout, then the Councillors in Haywards Heath will remember the 40% not the 90 when they are discussing planning applications to build in the fields around the village.

Its important that everyone votes - one vote per household won't be a good result. Make a point of emailing 10 people you know in the village at 6pm on Thursday and reminding them that they (and the rest of their family) need to vote.

Referendum results:

total votes cast 1415 equivalent to 33.1% of the electorate.

Number of voters voting YES - 1359 (96%)
Number of voters voting NO - 56 (4%)

A bigger turnout would have been nice but 33% is comparable with the Referendums in Ardingly (35%) and West Hoathly (28%).

So its a resounding YES for the Plan - lets see what happens next

I think this is a fantastic result, and the result of a huge amount of work from the whole CD NH plan team. Crawley Down is extremely lucky to have such a committed and knowledgeable team.

Ian in particular has done sterling work in defending the plan in council meetings, and also done a huge amount of organisation to publicise the referendum. One of our best Councillors.

The village owes the team a debt of gratitude in bringing this day about. A great Christmas present for the village.

Well done.

Having worked with Ian I agree entirely with Eddies' assessment. He is one of our hardest working and most astute councillors. A pity that he just missed out on election to MSDC.

As one of the team, I'd like to make the point that it would not have happened if it were not for the residents who took the time to respond to surveys, ask questions, attend meetings, focus groups etc., etc.

Thank you.
